China is Buick's largest market by a large margin, so it makes sense that the brand will be showing its latest concept, an all-electric SUV dubbed Enspire, next week at the 2018 Beijing auto show. The EV version of the Buick Velite 6 "will be introduced in China at a later date", GM says.

The VELITE 6 electric vehicle will adopt a new-generation pure electric drive system to offer customers a smooth, quiet and natural driving experience.

The new-generation modular high-performance ternary lithium-ion battery pack will be assembled at the SAIC-GM Power Battery Development Center in Shanghai. The battery incorporates leading battery heat management technology, providing independent and uniform temperature control of each battery unit via liquid cooling.

It apes the "floating C-pillar" that Nissan, Infiniti, Lexus, Mazda, and others are using; adds de-rigeur plastic fender flares to visually raise the centre of mass; and eschews door handles, as concept cars are wont to do.

Buick unveiled a attractive new all-electric SUV concept with "up to 340 miles" of range. This new concept is not just another electric crossover, but one packing a claimed 550 horsepower and zero to 60 miles per hour in just 4.0 seconds.

Range anxiety shouldn't be an issue, not since Buick says the Enspire can travel for as much as 370 miles (595 km) on a single charge. It supports fast charging and wireless charging. Still, four seconds is very respectable for an electric SUV that be recharged to 80 percent capacity within 40 minutes. Up there, the Enspire has an OLED infotainment screen and augmented reality head-up display, with 5G high-speed connectivity built in.
