Carter Carson (9) was struck by a auto while leaving a shopping centre with his family in the town of Adeje in the south of the island on Thursday, and died in hospital on Friday.

COPS hunting the hit-and-run killer of a ten-year-old Irish boy, have arrested a man in Tenerife.

"Carter was taken to hospital where doctors tried their best but unfortunately they couldn't save him and Carter passed away on Friday".

The hit-and-run happened around 8.30pm on Thursday in a street called Calle Dublin - Dublin Street in English - in Adeje in the south of the island.

"Police have arrested two men over their alleged links to the fatal running-over of a boy in Tenerife".

"Carter was our world, with a smile that touched so many hearts".

Carter was a pupil at Abbots Cross primary school in Newtownabbey, where the principal, Joanne Griffith, said the building would be opened specially later this week during the school holidays so that pupils and parents could come in to sign a book of memories.

Grieving Heather Doherty, whose son Josh played with Carter, added: "Stuart Carson and family, you are all in our thoughts at this time".

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his friends at the club".
