Need to back Pakistan in fight against terror China on PM Modi's 'terror export factory' remark

A day ahead of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's visit, China on Friday put up a staunch defence of its all-weather ally Pakistan after Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the neighbouring country as a "terror export factory".

In response to another question on whether terrorism will be on the agenda at next week's meeting, she said, "As for the foreign ministers' meeting on terrorism, I believe it is a goal of the SCO to promote relevant cooperation in the field".

PM Abbasi on his part said that Pakistan and China are "iron friends" who have always supported each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns, hailed CPEC's important role in the development of both countries and the region and expressed Pakistan's willingness to promote bilateral cooperation in finance, energy, agriculture, infrastructure and human resources. She will also meet her Chinese Wang Yi on Sunday.

Iranian Deputy FM Slams US Moves against JCPOA
The question now is whether European leaders can give Trump enough assurances to keep him from suspending the sanctions. Iran has repeatedly said it does not seek nuclear weapons and only wants a civilian nuclear program.

Swaraj may also seek Beijing's help in dealing with its ally Pakistan on the terror issue, as New Delhi has done earlier.

Asked about Modi's comments, foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said: "Terrorism is an enemy faced by all. The global community should also support the efforts of Pakistan in fighting terrorism and cooperate with it", Hua added. She informed that the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers of SCO will exchange views on cooperation in various fields and on major worldwide and regional issues. They have recently become full members of SCO after being observers for several years. These are the first meetings of the SCO after India and Pakistan were admitted into the eight-member group in which China and Russian Federation play an influential role. Hua told journalists that the SCO would discuss terrorism-related issues.

The annual summit of THE eight-member SCO, in which India is the latest entrant along with Pakistan, will take place in the Chinese city of Qingdao in June. So the upcoming Prime Minister's SCO meeting will see participants exchanging views on the relevant issues.
