DePauw protesters come out during Jenna Fischer's talk

Almost 200 DePauw students protested Tuesday night during a lecture series by actress Jenna Fischer.

Splitting Up Together star and recently published author Jenna Fischer took to social media to today to describe an event Tuesday night in IN at which student protesters interrupted her book-signing and Q&A event.

"Jenna's support of our students and the empathy and kindness she has demonstrated - while on campus and now after the fact - are remarkable, genuine and appreciated", Ken Owen, special advisor to the president at DePauw University, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Some involve racial or homophobic messages written in bathroom stalls or in rocks at a nearby park owned by the university. She wrote that she "could feel the pain, sadness and fear" coming from the student protesters. No student should feel at risk, or have to suffer the kinds of bigotry and hate these students have encountered.

DePauw University issued the following statement on social media afterwards.

Video taken of the protest shows Fischer listening to the protesters and responding with "Oftentimes justice requires disruption and interruption of our scheduled lives".

University President Mark McCoy was speaking during a Wednesday news conference about the school's response when chanting students entered the room with a large banner saying "We are not safe".
