Comey memos: Trump was concerned about Flynn's 'judgment'

Mr Comey is on a publicity tour to promote his new book, A Higher Loyalty.

Trump fired Flynn because he said he'd lied to Vice President Mike Pence, although the full circumstances remain unclear.

Former FBI Director James Comey's memos about meetings with President Donald Trump have been handed over to Congress.

"James Comey is an anti-Trump activist".

Comey says that Trump restated on the finish of their dialog that the president "hoped I might discover a approach to get out that he wasn't being investigated".

Sitting in a low-slung armchair on the stage of the Town Hall theatre, in midtown Manhattan, Comey talked through the most contentious and consequential decisions he made as F.B.I. director during the 2016 campaign and the early months of Donald Trump's Presidency, and offered his thoughts on the President and his conduct in office.

In his book, Comey admits that some of these memos contained classified material.

Other top officials also appear in the Comey memos, including Flynn himself - with whom Comey had a relationship dating to Flynn's time in charge of the Defense Intelligence Agency - and former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus.

The memos also revealed how concerned the president was that the idea that he was under investigation - even though Comey had told him he was not - was creating a cloud over his presidency and that he wanted Comey to make it clear that he was not personally under investigation.

During his first meeting with Trump, Comey brought up unverified allegations about the president's trip to Moscow.

Justice Dept. agrees to send Comey memos to Congress
Trump's remarks, unsurprisingly, came in the form of a tweet shortly after Comey appeared on CNN with Jake Tapper. He revealed past year that he had written the memos after conversations with Trump.

Former FBI director James Comey is seen here being interviewed by ABC News.

While most of what they contain closely matches what Comey has already shared publicly, there are some rather interesting nuggets of exactly what Trump allegedly said at the time - and some news about how his then-underlings acted.

The documents have also been reviewed by the White House and a separate source familiar with the matter said the White House made no redactions to the documents.

Gowdy told CNN on Wednesday that there's nothing in the memos that should prevent the Justice Department from providing them to Congress.

In another memo, Comey recounts how Trump at a private White House dinner pointed his fingers at his head and complained that Flynn, his embattled national security adviser, "has serious judgment issues". Others, like former Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, have denounced Comey for leaking memos about his discussions with Trump.

His commentson CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper" came after CNN reported that the Justice Department's inspector general referred its findings on Andrew McCabe, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy director, to the USA attorney's office in Washington for possible criminal charges associated with lying to internal investigators.

In a letter sent to three Republican House committee chairmen Thursday evening, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd writes that the department is sending a classified version of the memos and an unclassified version.

Boyd writes that the department "consulted the relevant parties" and concluded that releasing the memos would not adversely affect any ongoing investigations. Many media members and liberals have been fawning over the negative details and stories Comey shared about Trump in his book and in interviews, focusing on whether or not Comey believes that Trump will be impeached on allegations of "obstruction of justice" for firing him.

In a letter to three top Republican House chairmen, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd said the department chose to provide lawmakers with the memos now because of "unusual events occurring since the previous limited disclosure".

The Justice Department agreed to give Congress the Comey memos after House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia threatened to issue a subpoena for them.
