The Ford Mustang will make its Australian track debut at the first round of the Supercars Series in March 2019 at the Adelaide 500.
The brand will also supply both financial and technical assistance to leading Ford-aligned teams Tickford Racing and DJR Team Penske to develop the racing version of the vehicle.
Development of the new Mustang Supercar has already begun with Tickford, DJR Team Penske and Ford Performance working together to turn the road vehicle into a racer. Supercars organizers on Tuesday confirmed that Ford will return to the sport in 2019 with a new race vehicle based on the Mustang (standard model pictured). Down Under in Australia, it's been well represented by the Falcon.
Rumours suggest the teams are hoping to have a development auto ready for demonstration laps at the 2018 Bathurst 1000, but team principals Ryan Story (DJR Team Penske) and Tim Edwards (Tickford) said it is too early in the program to put a timeline on the car's first appearance.

"It's great to be back in the Ford fold, and we'll continue to ensure that we give Ford - and its millions of fans - something to cheer about".
