For riding horse upper caste men kill Dalit youth in Gujarat
The Gujarat Police on Saturday claimed that the Dalit youth who was killed in Bhavnagar district late Thursday allegedly for keeping a horse used to harass local girls and the villagers were angry with his activities.
Mal said the police were yet to identify and nab the culprits who killed Pradeep and as for the three persons picked up by them on Friday, they were detained for mere questioning. "The horse that he had bought two months ago was also lying dead nearby".
His complaint stated that Pradip was killed using sharp weapons by some Rajput men when he was returning home from his farm on his horse on Friday evening.
Police said that they have also come across multiple complaints against Pradeep's father for being involved in various incidents of land grabbing in the past.

The victim's father, Kalubhai Rathod, alleged that Pradip wanted to sell off the horse after he had received threats from some people believed to be from a particular caste. Recounting the horrific night of the murder Kalubhai said, "when he did not return till late, we got anxious and started looking for him". The incident took place after the upper caste had reserved the Dalit boy from riding the horse and had even threatened him along with his family. "We found him lying dead between the farm and the house, a little away from the horse which was there too", he said. The family has refused to claim the body until all the accused are arrested.
Pradeep's body has been shifted to Bhavnagar Civil Hospital for post-mortem, the police added.
