Abby Lee Miller's doctor says the reality TV star has undergone surgery after she nearly died.
The 51-year-old former Dance Moms star is now in recovery following an unscheduled 5-hour surgery in Marina del Ray, California. Samer Saah, a representative for orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Hooman Melamed, told the celebrity news site that, had Miller not had the surgery, she could have died or become paralyzed.
Dr. Melamed and his team rushed her into surgery at approximately 1 AM PST on Tuesday and finished surgery around 5 AM PST. "Forget paralysis - if she waited much longer she would've died from this".
TMZ reported Abby will be able to move out of the halfway house on May 25, 2018. "She was not doing well", Melamed told the magazine. "She is in recovery now". News that Abby Lee has had emergency surgery as she had an infection in her spine.
Melamed pointed out that the case was common for smokers and diabetic patients, though he explained that Miller is in the pre-diabetic range, which means it seemed unlikely for her.

Melamed said he attempted to transfer Miller after her blood pressure began to bottom out, but he "felt if we tried she may not make it by the time she gets to another hospital".

In May 2017, Miller, 51, a Pittsburgh native, was sentenced to a year and one day in federal prison with two years of supervised release for bankruptcy fraud.
