Man United news: David de Gea poised for new five-year deal on £350k-a-week with Jose Mourinho's Red Devils

United have extra funds available for player wages following the exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to LA Galaxy and the club are reportedly keen "to show the world that De Gea won't be leaving for anywhere" by agreeing the deal before he joins up with Spain on global duty this summer.

He has now been linked with a summer move to Real Madrid as Los Blancos want him to replace their current number one goalie Keylor Navas.

David de Gea is ready to commit his future to Manchester United by signing a new five-year deal, according to reports.

The Spaniard is set to become United's second best-paid player, behind Alexis Sanchez, who is on around €576.000 a week.

De Gea though will be looking to add to his 99 Premier League saves this season as he attempts to stop Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and co.

It is all a far cry from last season when he thought he had lost his card in America before being handed a reprieve after a recalculation.

De Gea has always maintained that he is happy at Old Trafford, with reports in the last few weeks saying he knows that he is appreciated for more in Manchester than he ever would be in Madrid, whose fans get on the back of even the club's brightest stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo. It has to be done in their eyes.

'Zlatan leaving has freed up more wiggle room on wages and United don't want to drag it out. They want to show the world that David won't be leaving for anywhere. It's a real statement'.

However, it's understood Real Madrid have cooled their interest in De Gea and are drawing up a list of alternative targets for the summer transfer window.

The noise has quieted down temporarily but will only truly go away if the Red Devils give him a contract extension and a pay rise worthy of his talent.
