Supreme Court orders Centre to seize underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's properties in Mumbai

The Dawood's's biggest strength has been his money and lavish properties that he owns the world.

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Union Government to seize underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's properties in Mumbai while rejecting Dawood's family challenging the seizure.

A bench of justices R K Agrawal and A M Sapre dismissed the plea, saying the properties belonged to Dawood Ibrahim.

Amina and Hasina were unable to provide any kind of proof that the earnings and the properties had a legal source, thus, they couldn't take back the properties.

Dawood's mother and sister had challenged the takeover after the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai in which 257 were killed.

The government sealed the properties in 1988 under a law allowing the takeover of properties of smugglers, foreign exchange manipulators and their relatives. The properties worth crores of rupees have allegedly been acquired with Dawood Ibrahim's ill-gotten wealth. PTI previously reported that of a total of seven properties in south Mumbai's Nagpada - two were in Amina's name and the remaining five were in the name of Hasina. Amina Kaskar and Hasina Parkar demanded the reversal of the orders, which were put into motion after the occurrence of 1993 Mumbai blasts.

The three properties were theHotel Raunaq Afroz, also known as Delhi Zaika, Shabnam Guest House and six rooms in Damarwala building. He has been sheltered by Pakistan and it's been confirmed, as the list of terror organizations and terrorists was released by the United Nation Security Council included Dawood Ibrahim and his Karachi address.
