The find off the north-east coast of the island is the latest in a string of dinosaur discoveries on Skye.
Fossils from this epoch are "exceedingly rare", according to a study by the University of Edinburgh, Staffin Museum, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, published in the Scottish Journal of Geology. Large, roundish tracks with toe and claw marks found at the site likely belonged to long-necked, four-legged herbivorous sauropod dinosaurs, while the smaller, three-toed and clawed footprints were probably left by two-legged, meat-eating theropods, whose relatives include Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor, the researchers said.
The research was particularly challenging as the footprints were found in a site that was subject to weathering by the waters at Brother's Point on the Trotternish peninsula on Skye. The largest three-toed theropod footprints found there measure 1.7 feet (53 cm) in length.
Researchers used drone photographs to make a map of the site, while additional images were collected using a paired set of cameras and tailored software to help model the prints.
Belonging to big long-necked Sauropods and Therapods - the "older cousins" of Tyrannosaurus Rex, the fresh finds include dozens of footprints dating back to the Middle-Jurassic period.

These prints were fossilized thanks to the lagoon's "low-energy environment", said study lead researcher Paige dePolo, a master's student of paleontology and geobiology at the University of Edinburgh.
Ms DePolo said: "It was found in rocks that were slightly older than those previously found at Duntulm on the island and demonstrates the presence of sauropods in this part of the world through a longer timescale than previously known".
Scientists are proclaiming a "globally important" breakthrough in the understanding of dinosaurs after a study into footprints found on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.
"This site is a useful building block for us to continue fleshing out a picture of what dinosaurs were like on Skye in the Middle Jurassic".
Anytime we find new dinosaurs it is exciting, especially in Scotland because the record is so limited and also because these are Middle Jurassic dinosaurs and there are very few dinosaur fossils of that age anywhere in the world.
"These dinosaurs would have been walking in some water, not really deep water, but maybe knee deep or a little less".
