Cook fell to Boult for the third consecutive time in the series

Former New Zealand captain Jeremy Coney on TMS: "You should be hitting middle and off every ball".

Anderson dismissed Kane Williamson for 22 shortly after the restart, the in-form captain chasing one down leg and getting a fine edge through to Bairstow. The pacer got the ball to curve nicely away from the batsman and crash into the stumps as Watling played down the wrong line. They saw off the harder ball really well and between 45-70 overs they upped the scoring rate.

Ish Sodhi didn't last, becoming Stuart Broad's fifth victim, and Jonny Bairstow's fifth catch of the innings.

However, Tim Southee (6-62) and Trent Boult (4-87) struck in successive overs to Leach and Bairstow respectively as England were bowled out for 307 in their first innings.

Alrighty then, Cook and Stoneman have walked out to open.

The 31-year-old Broad, who had De Grandhomme caught behind for 72, wound back the clock to finish the day with four for 38.

Despite that, they appear no nearer finding a combination that can compete with New Zealand, let alone the three countries above them in the world Test rankings.

New Zealand need to keep batting.

Klopp fears for Lallana after 'really serious' injury
There were more problems for the Reds - and for England - as Adam Lallana limped off after just five minutes against Palace. The 29-year-old has been plagued by injury problems this season and had only recently worked himself back to full fitness.

Phillies manager Gabe Kapler flops in season-opening defeat
Hoby Milner entered and immediately gave up a 2-run homer to Freddie Freeman , and the comeback was on for the Braves . He issued two walks during the next four innings and induced a double-play grounder by the next batter in each case.

Dubai World Cup trophy
An 8-1 shot before the race, Thunder Snow saw off the challenge of Bob Baffert-trained favorite West Coast , who came in second. But Thunder Snow earned redemption after refusing to run at last year's Kentucky Derby by winning the $10 million race.

England's openers then safely negotiated a tricky five-over spell before lunch, but Cook departed soon after the interval, raising further questions over his own future in the team. Stay tuned for more.

Day three will start at 23:30 BST on Saturday.

Watling added eight to his overnight score, while Southee - who signalled his intent with a six off Ben Stokes (0-17) and back-to-back boundaries to punish Mark Wood (0-69) in the next over - brought up his fifty. His dynamism, though, didn't last long as the enormity of the responsibility he was faced with dawned upon him.

He and Raval could be excused for losing their wickets to quality bowling.

It was the third time in the series that a new ball pair had taken all 10 wickets in an innings.

Watling followed at a more studied tempo from 125, albeit with a slog-swept six off debutant spinner Jack Leach to reach the milestone. Stokes, however, didn't look penetrative enough and the New Zealand duo were able to see off his challenge easily.

Needing to at least draw the final match of the home summer to record their fourth series win against England, de Grandhomme showed vast maturity in his 151-ball innings of 72, which complemented the ever-gutsy Watling and his unbeaten 77 from 196 deliveries. The wicket finally came when de Grandhomme edged one to the 'keeper off Broad. Fortunately for them, Watling and de Grandhomme produced the goods just when it mattered and managed to put the pressure back on England.
