Facebook CEO doesn't leave us feeling our data is safe
Lawmakers also questioned whether Facebook was capable of regulating itself after 87 million Facebook users unknowingly had their personal information accessed by Cambridge Analytica, a data firm with ties to the Trump campaign.
Most of this isn't new information, but it's part of Facebook's initiative to be more transparent with the government and its users about how the data it collects is shared.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg answered over 500 questions and is working to answer another 40 that he didn't immediately have the answers to during the hearing.
Eshoo submitted all 510 questions into the committee's official record, and Zuckerberg will be required to answer all of them. Through this, Facebook's product management director David Baser wrote that even if a user doesn't post, the company receives data from other websites and apps.
Zuckerberg says Facebook "failed" to protect people's information following the use by Cambridge Analytica of data scraped from 87 million Facebook users to target political ads ahead of the 2016 United States presidential election.

When more and more conversions happen on your website, Facebook gets better at delivering your ads to people who are more likely to take certain actions.
Privacy advocates noted that Zuckerberg has not revealed what his company is doing with the information on non-users. Luján even pushed for a disclosure that could negatively impact Facebook's ad revenue. Facebook Social Plugins such as Like and Share buttons are used by third-party apps and websites to make the site appear more social and also help share the website's content on the Facebook.
Cambridge Analytica was planning to raise money by issuing a new type of digital currency before it became embroiled in a scandal surrounding the misuse of Facebook personal data, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.
