That question will be answered from Monday when Facebook starts to send a message to the 87 million users it believes were affected by the data breach. The company says it only ever received data on 30 million users, reports News.com.au.
The remarks come ahead of a meeting of the EU's 28 data watchdogs in Brussels to discuss the issue and a call between Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg and the bloc's Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova. Facebook did not inform its users publicly or privately.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologised for his company's role in the data scandal.
- Facebook is also making sure it's more transparent with its users and will provide more information on the features it has introduced such as Marketplace, starting fundraisers or sharing 360 videos.
The controversy involves allegations of the improper use of private Facebook information to help support major political wins, including Donald Trump's 2016 US presidential campaign.
"Additionally, those potentially impacted by Cambridge Analytica will also see the alert with additional language which will then take them to see what data might have been shared".
They told TechCrunch: "We will now be making a broader delete message feature available".

Facebook chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer has showed country-specific break-up of people affected by the data breach, saying information of up to 87 million people, mostly in the USA, may have been "improperly" shared with Cambridge Analytica via a quiz app, "thisisyourdigitallife", between November 2013 and December 2015.
Still reeling from the Cambridge Analytica debacle and other privacy scandals, Facebook has now announced that the feature will in fact be rolling out to everyone - although not necessarily any time soon. The company did not say what this number would be.
Facebook says most of the affected users (more than 70 million) are in the USA, along with over a million each in the Philippines, Indonesia and the UK. He has spent more than eight years covering the ways that tech companies like Apple, Facebook and Google navigate the corridors of government - and the regulations that sometimes result.
In her New York Times op-ed "Facebook's surveillance machine", University of North Carolina professor Zeynep Tufekci writes that Facebook has created "shadow profiles" of people who don't use the website using information provided by friends and family.
Lawmakers had asked Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg to explain to a parliamentary committee how the data got into Cambridge Analytica's hands.
