Facebook's subsidiary and instant messaging platform WhatsApp rolled out a similar feature called "Delete for everyone" in November 2017.

Only recently has the social media company taken steps to secure user data.

"We have discussed this feature several times".

Asked for comment, Facebook said in an emailed statement: "We are strongly committed to protecting people's information, and we intend to make all the same privacy controls and settings available everywhere". "This may take some time", a Facebook spokesman wrote in an e-mail last Friday.

"Until this feature is ready, we will no longer be deleting any executives' messages". We should have done this sooner - and we're sorry that we did not.

The company admitted about messages being vanished from people's inbox, which was first observed by TechCrunch, who mentioned three sources that had been tampered with.

"AggregateIQ has never managed, nor did we ever have access to any Facebook data or database allegedly obtained improperly by Cambridge Analytica", says the website.

Facebook said the feature was developed after the Sony data hack in 2014, which exposed a trove of sensitive internal communications. "AggregateIQ works in full compliance within all legal and regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions where it operates".

Earlier this week the company was further embroiled in the scandal over user's private data.

We Have No Agenda To 'Truncate' NPP Government
He however, reminded his party that "even though the NPP has proven to be super incompetent, they can not rely on that to win the 2020 elections".

The practice of Facebook secretly deleting messages sent by Mark Zuckerberg and other senior members of staff was revealed in a report by TechCrunch late Thursday.

In June we also plan to release a public, searchable political ads archive.

While the intentions behind the practice may be well-meaning, the news is likely to add to users' concerns over what the social network knows about them.

Facebook has been under pressure this week after admitting that it had "improperly shared" the personal data of 87 million users. "But they will make it a lot harder for anyone to do what the Russians did during the 2016 election and use fake accounts and pages to run ads".

Starting Monday, Facebook will also provide a link at the top of users' News Feeds to show them what apps they are using and what personal data is shared with those apps, Schroepfer added.

Sandberg's boss, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is expected to testify on Capitol Hill next week regarding the scandal.

Zuckerberg told his host a story about receiving a phone call from staff at his Mountain View firm. The company had detected people trying to send sensational messages through the Messenger app.

About the experience, the 33-year-old billionaire said: 'In that case, our systems detect what's going on.

Facebook claims that it will allow users to unsend messages with no time limits on when they were sent.
