Tamil Film Producers Finally End Strike after 47 Days, Kollywood Fans Can Rejoice Now
Tamil Film Producers Council President, Vishal talks to the press about calling off the strike.
It took government intervention, but after a 48-day impasse, the Kollywood strike spearheaded by Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) against Digital Service Providers (DSP)'s and theatres in Tamil Nadu has ended. All the theatres across Tamil Nadu have been shut from March 1st and despite of several steps of discussions, no solution has been found. TFPC revealed that they are not in a mood to compromise and will go ahead with the protest though they have been losing crores of money.
The shoot of Tamil film will also resume soon and Vishal says the VPF cost of E Cinema is reduced by 50%, steps will be taken to reduce the VPF cost of D Cinema too. The most important aspect is as per our request, the government has ordered all the theatres to go fully transparent from 1 June. The first film to hit the screens will be the Karthik Subbaraj-directed Prabhu Deva thriller Mercury, which released in other part of the country on 13 April. "For a period of six months, E-cinema rates have been brought down from '9,000 to '5,000 for a week's run".
These demands included computerisation of movie tickets, reduction in online ticketing fee, regularisation of film releases, reduction in ticket prices depending on the film's budget and of course, the fee charged by the DSPs.

A G.O. will be passed soon on this. "We are grateful to the TN government for solving this, and are happy that the strike is now at an end". "The meeting between the producers is to be held on April 18 and the council will decide on the release sequence of films that are in the pipeline", he said.
April 27 will see the release of three new Tamil films. "The announcement about film releases will be made by the evening".
