Frantic search for 13 year-old teen who fell into a drainage ditch

Authorities in Los Angeles are desperately searching the L.A. River and a winding network of drainage pipes after a 13-year-old boy fell through a wooden plank and was washed away. Officials said Jesse and some friends had climbed a chain-link fence and were playing in an abandoned maintenance shed near the river when a wooden plank gave way, opening a hole that led into a drainage pipe and the boy fell in.

The Los Angeles Fire Department did not respond to Newsweek's request for further comment in time for publication. The search began at 5254 W. Zoo Dr., she said.

LAFD Capt. Erik Scott told reporters the boy reportedly fell about 25 feet into flowing water.

"All possible City resources are being utilized in the search for Jesse".
