Emma Stone and Jonah Hill star in the series from 'True Detective' director Cary Fukunaga
Emma Stone and Jonah Hill's headlining comedy series titled Maniac went into production in New York City on August 15 2017. A first look at Maniac was revealed by Netflix at a promotional event in Rome this week. Sonoya Mizuno, Justin Theroux, Sally Field, Julia Garner, and Jemima Kirke co-star in the series.
Starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, and directed by Cary Fukunaga, Maniac is the story of two strangers who find themselves caught up in a mind-bending pharmaceutical trial gone awry.
That movie was Stone's first feature film and helped her break into Hollywood. The pair played love interests in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's hit comedy Superbad, and their careers have come a long way since. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in black comedy The Wolf of Wall Street.

Netflix has not announced the official release date or any trailers for the series so far. Indeed, with the medium of television also recently covering the same "unreliable narrator" imagination filter trope with USA's Mr. Robot, we can expect Maniac to purposefully project off-the-wall-themes.
