Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Earle Bruce has died.
Earle Bruce's daughters released a statement that their 87-year-old father had passed away this morning.
Bruce was the coach for the Buckeyes from 1979 to 1987 and had the hard task of replacing legendary Buckeyes coach Woody Hayes. My mentor and friend, thank you for all you did for The Ohio State University, and all those players and coaches whose lives you made a difference in.
Bruce's first team in 1979 went 11-1, its only loss in the Rose Bowl.
"He was a great man, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and a respected coach to many", the statement said that was shared on talking Big Ten's Twitter. He had a 5-3 record in bowl games.

MI football coach Jim Harbaugh took to Twitter on Friday to express condolences to Bruce's family.
