The Gunners are now looking for a new manager after the news that long-serving boss Arsene Wenger will leave the club at the end of the season.

Celtic's biggest shareholder Dermot Desmond says he will not stand in the way of Brendan Rodgers if he wants to join Arsenal.

Wenger announced today that, after 22 years as Arsenal manager, he would be stepping down at the end of the season, with Rodgers mooted as a candidate to take charge at the Emirates Stadium.

The former Liverpool boss has regularly knocked back speculation linking him with a return to the Premier League.

"I'm glad he's the favourite [with bookmakers]".

And then speaking to Sky Sports News shortly after, Claude said: "We can't be going down the Brendan Rodgers and Eddie Howe route".

Thomas Tuchel, Patrick Vieira, Joachim Low and Carlo Ancelotti are all strong in the betting.

Formerly of Liverpool, Rodgers has won two Scottish Championship titles and has been cited as a potential Wenger replacement.

Rodgers admitted earlier this week that he has unfinished business at Celtic and is already planning for this third season at Parkhead.

"There's still a lot of work for me to do and achieve on and off the pitch, but you can only do that if you're happy, and I couldn't be happier at this club and the support I get from the board", he told the club's official website.
