Google announced Monday, April 2, it was banning cryptomining extensions on the Google Chrome web store and subsequently delisting all extensions which mine for cryptocurrency by June.

The ads giant allowed plugins onto the browser's software souk if their sole goal was crafting alt-coins, which are invariably based on blockchain technology, and netizens are made aware of these mining operations.

Google is no longer accepting any new cryptocurrency mining extensions on its Chrome browser's web store.

The Chrome Web Store originally allowed cryptocurrency mining extensions, as long as it was all the extension was supposed to do, and the users knew exactly what they were getting into. However, blockchain-related applications for other purposes will be permitted. It consumes high levels of CPU power and can severely impact system performance.
