Google launches updated DIY kits for AI voice & vision w/ edu focus, available at Target
Both of the kits come bundled with a Raspberry Pi Zero WH board and a pre-provisioned SD card, while the Vision Kit also includes a Raspberry Pi Camera v2. The search giant believes the new kit will speed up the setup process as users will not have to go shopping for extra needed items. However, Google has chose to make it easy for you to build your own smart speaker similar to a Google Home or a smart home camera that can detect faces and expressions by including everything that you need, including the boards in the updated versions of its Voice Kit and Vision Kit. Google AIY Projects are very useful in schools and for STEM projects.
Since launching in 2017, Google notes that they've seen "continued demand" for the Voice and Vision Kits "especially from the STEM audience where parents and teachers alike have found the products to be great tools for the classroom".
Google also announced that the AIY website has been revamped with updated documentation and easy-to-read instructions for the young do-it-yourself enthusiasts. The Google AIY Projects app helps you to configure your project once it's assembled. Other improvements as part of this education-focussed initiative include improved documentation and a collection of neural networks created to work with AIY kits. It must be noted that the app can only be used after the initial setup is done. This year, AIY Projects are refreshing the previous kit and bringing a new one.

The company recently launched a browser-based version of TensorFlow called TensorFlow.js. However, the previously released kits did not include some of the required parts such as the Raspberry Pi board.
Google might be hoping that with these tools, its community of developers will be able to find ways to make smart speakers and smart cameras even smarter.
