Detective Inspector Andy Wolstenholme of the Sussex Police said, "Daryll Rowe was consistent in lying to his victims about having HIV, he was persistent and aggressive in wanting unprotected sex in order to infect people, and when he didn't get what he wanted, he deliberately damaged condoms to achieve his aim".
Rowe was sentenced to life in prison because "given the facts of this case and your permissive predatory behavior I can not see when you would no longer be a danger to gay men", Henson said.
Rowe repeatedly used aliases to dupe his victims, and lied to the police.
The court heard it was the first case in which someone was to be sentenced for GBH after intentionally infecting others with the HIV virus. "I'm just so glad that I can finally put all of this behind me", Rowe's youngest victim, who did not contract the virus, told BuzzFeed News.
One victim alleged that Rowe sent crude and cruel text messages to him after they had sex like, "Maybe you have the fever cos I came inside you and I have HIV, lol". "Mr Rowe has never shown any sympathy of compassion", his oldest victim said during an impact statement, according to BuzzFeed.
If they refused, he tampered with condoms to trick them into thinking they were having safe sex.

Rowe's first victim told how he had considered taking his own life after he was diagnosed with HIV in January 2016. A part of me died that day when I was diagnosed.
The court heard that a psychiatric report had found Rowe's crimes were executed with "significant degree of rage, control, sadism and violence".
"This was a deliberate campaign to infect multiple men with a serious life-threatening and life-changing disease such that it falls outside the sentences envisaged by the (sentencing) guidelines".
Police said at least four male victims of Rowe have gone on to contract HIV.
Henson referred to the findings of two psychiatrists on the case, telling Rowe they "agree that the seriousness of your case is directly linked into deceiving men into high risk anal intercourse when you had not taken antiretroviral medication.Both agree that your motivation behind your offending is complex, particularly given your denial and rationalization of your offending".
His mother urged him to turn himself in to police, and when he was arrested police found three condoms with the tips cut off on him.
It was not until local media published his details that victims and potential victims were aware of Rowe's identity.
