Missouri lawmakers told they'll lose donors unless they support embattled governor
The Mission Continues has adamantly denied giving the donor list to the Greitens campaign. "Mr. Greitens however used that list for political fundraising". Spokeswoman Susan Ryan declined further comment.
"The evidence also indicates that conduct committed by Mr. Grietens falls within the statute of limitations. And so, a charging decision must be made very soon".
"We're glad that Hawley has come out of hiding to acknowledge the existing evidence of criminal behavior of the Governor. Nor did we promote Governor Greitens for political office".
In a letter from Attorney Ed Dowd to Hawley's office, he says that's because Hawley has "predetermined the guilt of his own investigative target". The AG's team provided information they have gathered to us, and we are reviewing the evidence. To be specific, within the past several days, we have obtained evidence of potential criminal violation of Missouri law.
"If proven, these acts could amount to the unauthorized taking and use of property".
Hawley, the Republican favorite in a tight U.S. Senate race this year to unseat Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill, is among a growing list of GOP members who are distancing themselves from Greitens.
"[Greitens] did all of this without permission of The Mission Continues", Hawley said at the Tuesday morning press conference.
"Anyone who has set foot in a Missouri courtroom knows these allegations are ridiculous", Greitens said.

Greitens in a Tuesday statement said he'll get rid of what he described as "false allegations". "In fact, there's nothing close to wrongdoing".
A spokeswoman for The Mission Continues says Gov. Eric Greitens had access to its donor list as CEO of the charity but did not have permission to later use the list for political purposes.
A spokeswoman says a request for the Missouri attorney general's office to recuse itself from investigating a charity founded by Republican Gov. Eric Greitens is "frivolous".
Hawley's press conference comes as Greitens is under increasing pressure to resign. He's called allegations of sexual and physical abuse on that report "lies" and a "witch hunt".
Greitens already faces a felony invasion-of-privacy charge in St. Louis for allegedly taking and transmitting a nonconsensual photo of a partially nude woman with whom Greitens said he had an affair.
The Associated Press first reported in October 2016 that Greitens' campaign had obtained a list of top donors to The Mission Continues. It amended its campaign finance reports to show a $600 in-kind donation from former campaign manager Danny Laub. He says it's up to the St. Louis prosecutor to decide whether to charge Greitens.
Dowd said he wants a rapid response from Hawley, who is seeking the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Claire McCaskill. Dowd argued that the attorney general's investigation of veterans charity The Mission Continues is compromised because of that.
The Mission Continues development could provide ammunition for lawmakers to impeach Greitens. "I mean, I just think for the citizens of that state, it's hard if not impossible to govern", Walker says.
