Devin Hester and Matt Forte will officially retire as Bears on April 23
The Bears don't have a ring of honor, so this will have to do: former Bears stars Devin Hester and Matt Forte will sign one-day contracts and retire as a Bear on Monday at Halas Hall. Both had left a tremendous mark on the game while they were still in Chicago.
Hester was one of the most electrifying players in Bears history, returning 14 punts and five kickoffs for touchdowns with the Bears from 2006-2013. He also made National Football League history when he returned the opening kickoff of Super Bowl XLI for a touchdown against the Colts in 2007.
As a receiver, Hester finished his 11-year career with 255 catches for 3,311 yards and 16 touchdowns.
The University of Miami product also set franchise highs in punt returns (264), punt return touchdowns (13), single-season punt return touchdowns (four), kickoff returns (222), kickoff return yards (5,504) and single-game kickoff return touchdowns (two).

At the time of his departure from the Bears following the 2015 season, Forte had led the National Football League in yards from scrimmage since 2008.
Regardless of their potential enshrinement, Hester and Forte will be remembered as two of the most notable Bears weapons of the early 21st century, making plays with the ball in their hands on a team known for its defense.
Forte had already announced he would retire as a member of the Bears. A two-time Pro Bowler, he set an National Football League single-season running back record with 102 catches in 2014.
