HMD Global reveals manufacturing plans for Nokia phones in India

With goals set on growing its smartphone business in India, HMD Global have announced that they now want to stress more on the in-grown manufacturing of its own components for handsets in the country.

India government has imposed a 10 percent duty on import of key phone components such as camera module and printed circuit board assembly as part of the strategy to boost domestic manufacturing.

The phone is a part of the resurrected Android One program, where manufacturers offer devices with stock Android software and direct software support from Google. In line with this, we have started having conversations with our partner Foxconn to manufacture our own components in the country. "It will happen over a period of time". Foxconn will help in manufacturing smartphone components and printed circuit boards (PCBs) printed using surface-mount technology (SMT).
