India to bid for 2026 Youth Olympics 2032 Summer Olympics says IOA chief Narinder Batra
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, who is on a two-day visit to India, said the country has the capability to host the Olympics.
Stressing the often repeated phrase that good governance and autonomy were the two sides of the same coin, Bach, visiting India for the second time after 2015, said that there would be a quadrupartite panel of experts from the IOC, Olympic Council of Asia, IOA and Sports Ministry to not only study the issues of compliance and autonomy, but also "to device a road map on how best to prepare the Indian athletes for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics".
On this occasion IOC President presented a memento to Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra and bronze medallist Vijender Singh.
Interestingly, union sports minister Rajyavardhan Rathore has made it clear that the present government is not in favour of hosting huge global events, and prefers to focus on providing sporting infrastructure and opportunities at the grassroots. He also attended Hockey 5s mixed team exhibition match at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here on Thursday evening.
"It would be fantastic for Indian athletes to have their Olympics in their home country".
Bach said the visit of the International Olympic Committee delegation could not have been timed better as the country was rejoicing after its fine performance in the CWG, which had provided a strong hint of the "potential of Indian athletes". "The process is underway and only after we finalise the hosts for the 2022 Youth Olympics, we will able to start the procedure for 2026", Bach explained.

The Tokyo Olympics will be held in July-August 2020 and the finer points of any such agreement need to be worked out quickly if India is to benefit from IOC's help. With Paris set to host the 2024 Olympics and Los Angeles the 2028 Games, talks on possible host cities for the 2032 would come up for discussion later.
"Of course, the IOC wants the Olympic Games to stay relevant to young audiences and include sport that can be held in centres of the host city in the midst of people, not just in stadia", he said. According to a government release, Bach expressed happiness that the Indian government had categorical views on "clean sports".
On his part, the president of IOA, Batra, said that Indian sport would adopt the "the no-needle policy" at the national level and also in training camps, to strengthen the anti-doping measures.
