Folau: I am not homophobic

Wallabies and Waratahs star Israel Folau has addressed the recent controversy over his comments on social media, in a piece for sports website, PlayersVoice.

Folau publicly explained his views in a first-person Players' Voice column on Monday night.

One of the nation's top players and most marketable athletes, Folau's contract expires at the end of the season and RA are keen to extend it beyond next year's World Cup in Japan.

Folau also addressed the meeting he had with Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle and Waratahs CEO Andrew Hore last week, including addressing his future in the sport, revealing he offered to walk away from the sport if his views were too far apart from the organisations.

"During the meeting I told them it was never my intention to hurt anyone with the Instagram comment, but that I could never shy away from who I am, or what I believe".

Rugby Australia (RA) confirmed it had decided against sanctioning Folau for his comments.

The 29-year-old explained that at no point over the two weeks following his social post did he want to have his contract torn up, despite the rumours that had been circling.

"There have been things written about me angling to get a release from my Rugby Australia deal to pursue an NRL contract".

He also took to Twitter to explain the decisions of the event organisers. "And the speeches ... they were way too long tonight". GOLDOC has released a statement today apologising for a major planning error.

Rare mid-April snow and cold; Brighter days ahead
Breezy west winds, gusting over 30 miles per hour will make it feel like it's in the 20s, the weather service forecast shows. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

"I know those discussions are ongoing and the dialogue between Rugby Australia and Israel is continuing and there hasn't been a time frame put on those discussions".

"After the meeting I went home, turned on the TV and was really disappointed with some of the things that were said in the press conference", Folau wrote.

When asked if Folau understood the pain his comments could cause, Castle replied: "Yes, and I think Israel has acknowledged that maybe he could have put a positive spin on that same message and done it in a more respectful way".

He said for him it was "not about money or bargaining power or contracts", but proclaimed his faith was more important than his career.

Rugby Australia could face a further backlash from sponsors over its decision not to sanction Folau.

"I acknowledge Raelene and Andrew have to run things in a way that appeals broadly to their executive, fans and sponsors, as well as its players and staff".

"My response to the question is what I believe God's plan is for all sinners, according to my understanding of my Bible teachings, specifically 1 Corinthians 6: 9-10: 'Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? I find peace in that", said Folau.
