Former President Jimmy Carter took several jabs at President Trump on"The Late Show
Stopping by The Late Show to promote his new book Faith, Carter was asked several pointed questions about Donald Trump by host Stephen Colbert. Host Stephen Colbert asked Carter, "Does America kind of want a jerk as president?"
Carter made it clear during the interview that people shouldn't expect him to run against Trump in the 2020 election, joking to Colbert that he thinks he's reached the "age limit" for the job. "I never knew it before", Carter answered.
For example, Colbert brought up Carter's good works as an ex-president, and then suggested he might have been too good a guy while in the Oval Office.
Last month, he said he would prefer Trump not be impeached, even if special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE's investigation exposes wrongdoing on the part of the president.

He then stole second base. "We have a lot of speed and really put a lot of pressure on catchers by stealing a lot of bases". Sophomore Tyler Zomerlei is a promising pitcher and is also a solid hitter who can play shortstop and third base.
"I used to think it was to tell the truth", Carter responded.
When Colbert asked if Carter believes his prayers are being answered, the former US president admitted, "When you pray, God has one of three answers: Yes, No, and You've got to be kidding - not sure which one it is [for Trump] yet". "But I've changed my mind lately", he added, in another apparent dig at Trump. "So, yeah, I pray for him", Carter said. "We do need them", Colbert said. "One is yes. The other one is no, and the third one is 'you've got to be kidding.' So, I'm not sure which one it is yet".
Colbert displayed Carter's latest book, in which the former U.S. president expressed concerns that racial and other cultural divisions among Americans have gotten worse since Trump was elected in 2016.
