One terrorist has been gunned down and another was arrested in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

The SPO, who has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf, was a former terrorist. "He was working as an SPO in Srinagar", SSP said.

One special police officer (SPO) was killed and another was critically wounded, officials said.

On Thursday, militants had carried out three back-to-back operations, leaving one Special Police Officer (SPO) dead and two others, including the wife of the cop, injured.

After the incident took place, the security agencies rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area in order to contain the accused militants. In the incident, the SPO sustained critical bullet wounds and has been shifted District hospital Anantnag for treatment where from he was later shifted to army's 92 base hospital Badamibagh, Srinagar.

"Due to multiple firearm injuries, the official succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom", said a police spokesman.
