J.J. Abrams Fixing Star Wars Episode IX

Current Star Wars trilogy actor John Boyega, who plays the former Stormtrooper-turned-total Rebel scum Finn, revealed during an appearance at Awesome Con in Washington D.C. that Episode IX will bring his character and Daisy Ridley's Rey back together again.

"I haven't read the script for Episode IX. But Daisy Ridley did shoot me a text saying, 'Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J. Abrams, and we're back together, '" Boyega tells Slash Film. "That's what I'm really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again".

Over the course of The Force Awakens, the two developed a lasting bond, working their way through self-doubt (Finn's decision to flee; Rey's encounter with her past in Maz Kanata's castle) and a two-part lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren that separated the pair and took Finn out of commission until the start of The Last Jedi.

Finn and Rey's relationship-introduced at breaking speed on Jakku-is one of the cornerstones of The Force Awakens, but they spent most of The Last Jedi apart as their respective journeys took them down different paths.

It's more about the expectation being so high. "But there is no doubt about his talent and character". The result sent his side eight points clear of the Blues in the race for a top-four finish.

Are you excited to see Rey and Finn back together?

This is good news for Star Wars fans who loved the chemistry between the two characters Rey and Finn in The Force Awakens. As it stands, they are now both more into the Resistance than they were at the beginning of the film, so it'd be hard to believe there being a clash of ideals in the next one - plus, audiences don't want to see that with our heroes so late in the trilogy.

But with Abrams returning to co-write and direct Episode IX, the connection between Rey and Finn looks to be a centerpiece in the story once again. Considering Ridley's message, it is confirmed that she has already gone through the Star Wars: Episode IX script. It remains to be seen whether or not the character of Leia Organa will be made to appear in the upcoming film.

In any case, this should only be the beginning of the flood of not quite spoilers we get as Star Wars: Episode IX gears up for its December 20, 2019 release.
