Three Kansas men convicted over mass 'slaughter' plot targeting Muslims

Three men have been found guilty of plotting to bomb Somali immigrants at a mosque and apartment complex in the USA state of Kansas.

Following a four-week trial, the three were convicted on Wednesday of one count of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and one count of conspiracy against civil rights.

The three men, who were members of a militia group in Kansas, wanted to detonate four parked vehicles filled with explosives outside the apartment complex in Garden City to "wake people up", officials said.

A sentencing date of June 27 has been set.

The FBI was tipped off about the men by a fellow member of the militia and an investigation began.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions called the verdicts a significant victory against domestic terrorism and hate crimes.

The men meant to park a vehicle packed with explosives at each corner of the complex and detonate them, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors told jurors that the defendants manufactured homemade explosives and tested them.
