Justin Langer is poised to be Australia's next cricket coach
Speculation is growing that Justin Langer will be appointed Australia's next coach but Cricket Australia (CA) is adamant no one has yet been chosen for the role. Lehmann had resigned as Australia coach following the ball-tampering scandal that erupted in Cape Town in March. The Cricket Australia is likely to make the appointment early May.
Langer has coached Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers for the past five seasons, winning three Big Bash League crowns and two one-day titles.
Newspaper reports had linked Justin Langer, the former Australia opener, to the job. Langer has experience coaching Australia as well, notably on a tour of West Indies in 2016 and a home series against Sri Lanka soon after.
"The process to be undertaken for the appointment of a new Australian men's head coach will be discussed and agreed at the CA board meeting this Friday", the statement read.
Langer believes the national coach should oversee all three global formats - Test, one-day and Twenty20 - but former team-mates Ricky Ponting or Jason Gillespie are in the frame to take on the limited overs roles if the positions are split. "We expect to have a clearer understanding of the approach and appointment timelines following this meeting".

As reported by Cricbuzz last month, there is also a groundswell of support behind former legends Jason Gillespie and Ricky Ponting to take up the reins, possibly as a duo.
Lehmann stepped down after the 3-1 loss on their Test tour of South Africa, where the team was engulfed by the ball-tampering scandal that resulted in 12-month bans for Steve Smith and David Warner, captain and vice-captain at the time.
The former Aussie batsman, who coached Australia to a historic Ashes whitewash in 2013/14, was set to resign in the following year.
