Kathua Rape Finds An Unlikely Voice IMF Chief Christine Lagarde Chides PM Modi
Just before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, it was then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi who mocked then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his "stoic silence" over various corruption scandals that had hit the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.
Manmohan Singh said PM Modi's silence on Kathua and Unnao incidents let people think that they could get away without stern action being taken against them. Through press (reports) I know that he used to criticize me for not speaking up.
Prime Minister Modi's remarks come in the backdrop of a nationwide outrage over the rape cases in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua and Uttar Pradesh's Unnao.
Shashi Singh, who is believed to be a close aide of prime accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, was sent to four-day police custody on April 16.
Singh added that as a father with three daughters, he was distressed by the recent reports.

They alleged that Indian forces deployed in held Kashmir are using rape and other crimes as a weapon of war to crush Kashmiri people's struggle for their right. They think they can get away with it...law and order is the responsibility of state governments.
