Paramount has agreed to fund and distribute "Rocketman", a biopic about British entertainer Elton John, a spokesman for the United States studio said on Thursday.
Kingsman actor Taron Egerton will star as the famed singer-songwriter, from his days at the Royal Academy of Music to his rise on the rock "n" roll scene of the 1970s and '80s and his recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in the '90s to global superstardom. Rocketman has been a long time in the works, back in 2012 when Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall joined the project, Elton was keen for Justin Timberlake to play him.
Let's face it: last year's Kingsman: The Golden Circle was mostly unfortunate, an overstuffed-yet-undercooked facsimile of the first Kingsman that never came anywhere near hitting that film's delirious highs.
The actor - who plays Gary "Eggsy" Unwin in the spy movie - met Elton while he was shooting his cameo appearance in the film, and Taron found the encounter hard to comprehend.
