LVMPD officers investigate the scene of an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead
Around 12:53 a.m. on Monday, two officers were patrolling the area around 12th Street where there have been burglaries at three businesses over the last three nights.
A man who Sarasota police said produced a gun when officers stopped to talk with him was shot in the leg overnight in the 2500 block of 12th Street.
During their patrols, the officers encountered a man riding a bicycle.
Police say when the officers attempted to speak with him, the man reached into his wasteband and pulled out a gun.

Three officers from the Jackson Police Department returned fire and killed the man. "When that secondary officer saw our suspect push the officer and produce a weapon, our secondary officer saw this and fired one shot". He is expected to be released from the hospital and taken to the county jail and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
Both officers immediately rendered first aid until paramedics arrived on scene.
According to police, Gick has had prior contact but no arrests by Sarasota police and has been arrested in Manatee County for domestic battery in 2011, violation of pre-trial release in 2011 and possession of drugs without a prescription in 2012. None of the officers were injured.
Per Police Department policy, Arena was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
