A half-dressed man was caught on camera running from police in northern California.

A man in patriotic garb who made off with a beer delivery semi truck in Sonoma County was apprehended by police within minutes Thursday, police said.

The police press release characterized the suspect as a transient male who was wearing nothing but American flag shorts.

A customer who saw the heist went inside MD Liquors on Sebastopol Road, alerting a delivery driver who was stocking Coors Banquet brews to what appeared to have been an opportunistic - and allegedly drunken- theft of the yellow truck just before noon, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Jeneane Kucker said.

The driver immediately contacted the authorities who dispatched a helicopter and a K-9 unit to track down the suspect. Using the truck's Global Positioning System device, the Sonoma County Sheriff's deputies managed to zero down on the suspect who, apparently, ditched the beer truck on Highway 101.

A man was arrested in Santa Rosa after he allegedly sexually assaulted a young girl, police said.

The defendant had been captured within an hour or so of their truck's thieving the report claimed, since he hid in the bushes.

Police soon located the suspect, later identified as 46-year-old Matt Lane Hermsmeyer, hiding in some bushes.

Police say alternate housing was arranged for the girl as they continued to investigate.

He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail on suspicion of multiple charges including felony grand theft and misdemeanor drunken driving, jail records show.
