Marquez leads Zarco in third COTA practice
Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez grabbed pole position for the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas in a drama-filled MotoGP qualifying session on Saturday.
The reigning world champion received his grid drop due to coasting on the racing line through turn 12 just as Vinales was coming up behind on a provisional fastest lap of the session.
Vinales abandoned his first flying lap after Marquez appeared in his countryman's way as the latter secured a sixth Austin pole with a time of two minutes, 3.658 seconds.
Stewards opened an investigation after Vinales was blocked by Marquez, who was getting up to speed on a spare bike following a fall into the gravel trap and had been unaware of his approach.

The 34-year-old who had struggled for runs in the last two matches was relieved to score some runs and win the game for his team. Rishab Pant (85 off 48 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (52 off 31 balls) blasted strokeful half-centuries to emerge as the top-scorers.

Italian great Valentino Rossi, who criticised the bumpy track surface after Friday practice, qualified fifth on his Yamaha.
