Sheriff's deputies on Monday arrested a former Michigan State University dean who supervised Larry Nassar, the sports doctor who is in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of child pornography and sexual misconduct. The figures came from documents obtained by the newspaper through a public records request.
The Journal reports the firm sent university staff members breakdowns of news stories, reports on how much traction those stories were getting on social media and summaries of how much engagement posts from Nassar's victims, celebrities, politicians and journalists were getting during the case. The work previously had been done by university employees, though some of that continued alongside the outside firm's work.

"Also uncovered on Strampel's work computer were pornographic videos and a video of Dr. Larry Nassar performing "treatment" on a young female patient", police said in their February affidavit, according to Michigan Public Radio.
Interim MSU President John Engler, who assumed office after his predecessor resigned under pressure earlier this year, began the process of removing Strampel's tenure and firing him last month. Nassar already has been sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison in another county and is starting his time behind bars with a 60-year federal term for child pornography crimes. He is also being charged with willful neglect for his handling of a 2014 sexual-harassment investigation into Nassar. The school is already under investigation by the MI attorney general's office for its role in the scandal. When Nassar was sacked from MSU in September 2016 for not adhering to these protocols, Strampel admitted he had failed to enforce them. The former Michigan State University sports-medicine and USA Gymnastics doctor received 40 to 125 years for three first degree criminal sexual abuse charges related to assaults that occurred at Twistars, a gymnastics facility in Dimondale.
