Michigan mother 'with history of mental illness' leaves her two infant daughters in a suitcase on the curb after CPS arrived to take them away

A mother has been take into custody after she allegedly left her two baby daughters in a suitcase outside a home in Flint, according to media reports. Prosecutors have charged Childress with two counts of child abuse-2nd degree, and two counts of unlawful imprisonment.

WNEM-TV in Flint reports police were called to the home on Pierson Road by Child Protective Services.

Police continue to investigate, and the woman remains in custody.

According to authorities, when they arrived, they saw the woman drop luggage next to the trash before fleeing from the scene.

The woman's name was not released by police. Officers returned to the woman's house and discovered that two of her young children were nowhere to be found.

Officers searched the area and found two infant girls inside a suitcase at the curb.

The girls were taken to Hurley Medical Center and listed in good condition, reported MLive.

Police believe she loaded the twins into the suitcase, zipped it closed and carried it out to the curb with more garbage from inside the house while she was cleaning.

She discarded the suitcase like it was trash, and officers chased after her, police told MLive.

The mother was arrested and taken to a local hospital.
