One often overlooked aspect of installing a smart thermostat is power savings, with Nest launching a new Power Project initiative to help low-income Americans with their electric bills.
The driving force behind all of this is that lower income households spend more of their income on utilities than the average U.S. family. We're committed to addressing this issue that affects so many through the Power Project. To do this, the company will work with various lenders, government programs, utility companies and non-profits, including Habitat for Humanity, Fannie Mae and Southern California Gas. Because we believe everyone deserves warmth in the winter and lights in the dark.
In addition to raising awareness, Nest is providing entities with one million smart thermostats at "special pricing", helping them ultimately offer the units to low-income families for up to zero cost.

Syria Chemical Weapons Visit Postponed After Gunfire
The strikes on Douma have ratcheted up tensions between the United States , its allies and Russian Federation . The administration is "going down a unsafe path" with regards to Syria , he said , without offering details.
There are 35 million households that struggle to pay their energy bill, with low-income ones spending three times more of their monthly wages to heat or cool homes than others. While the monthly income for some of these families may not change, Nest is attempting to do its part to at least relieve some of the burden by lowering the cost of the energy bills through the use of a smart thermostat. Nest will reportedly be working with a variety of groups and organizations to get the thermostats into the hands of the families that need them and qualify for the program, including various power companies across the USA, different lenders, and groups like Habitat for Humanity.
From April 16 to April 30, 10 percent of the proceeds from sales of Nest thermostats (up to $500,000), will be donated to organizations like Habitat for Humanity.
