Leo 2 and Lulu 6 were murdered by their nanny Yoselyn Ortega
A NY nanny was found guilty on Wednesday of stabbing to death two children in her care at their luxury Manhattan apartment, in a case that drew national headlines.
Yoselyn Ortega, 55, attacked 6-year-old Lucia Krim and her 2-year-old brother Leo, on October 25, 2012, placing their bloodied bodies in a bathtub before their mother, Marina Krim, came home to discover the horrifying scene.
The 55-year-old had attempted to dodge the murder charges by claiming insanity, but this was rejected by a jury at state Supreme Court in Manhattan.
Jurors were tasked with deciding whether Ortega was too mentally ill to be held responsible for the killings.
Investigators say Lucia was stabbed more than 30 times and Leo was stabbed five times.

Insanity defenses rarely succeed in NY, where proving mental illness is not enough to find a defendant not responsible for a crime. The state does not track how often the defense is raised, she said. That would've sent Ortega to a psychiatric facility instead of prison and could be discharged if doctors feel she is ready.
