Quakes in Iran and Indonesia volcano eruption in Japan
After spewing its first plume of ash in 250 years, Mount Io stopped erupting on Friday, though the Meteorological Agency said the surrounding area remained in danger. The eruption occurred at around 3.39 pm local time, shooting smoke and rocks into the air.
The alert level for Mount Io had earlier been raised from Level 1 (Be mindful that the volcano is potentially active) to Level 2 (Do not approach the crater) on February 20, 2018.
"It was confirmed that rocks fell because of the eruption" near Mount Io, part of the Mount Kirishima group of volcanoes, said an official of the meteorological agency. Footage captured by the agency and local media showed thick gray and white smoke rising from several areas of the mountain.
The volcano last erupted in 1768.

Mount Io's eruption occurred near Shinmoedake - a volcano featured in the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice - volcano.
Another volcano nearby also erupted violently in March for the first time in seven years.
Japan, with scores of active volcanoes, sits on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire" where a large proportion of the world's earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are recorded.
In September 2014, Japan witnessed one of the deadliest volcano eruptions in nearly 90 years when Mount Ontake in central Nagano erupted and killed almost 63 people.
