Fallout from Stephon Clark Killing Spreads to New York and Beyond National

Former Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings player Matt Barnes and family members of Stephon Clark held a rally in downtown on Saturday, calling for police to be held accountable for killing of the unarmed 22-year-old.

A highway patrol officer told The New York Times that it was investigating a collision that occurred that night on the corner where the protest took place.

A sheriff's deputy can be heard instructing people to "back away" from the vehicles. As a police SUV lurches through a hostile crowd, a sign-carrying woman crosses in front of the vehicle motioning for the driver to stop. "As one of the Sheriff's Deputies was driving, a collision occurred involving the Sheriff's patrol vehicle and a protester who was walking in the roadway".

"You're trying to tell me I can kill someone and get a paid vacation?" he said. She told the Sacramento Bee: "He never even stopped".

Traffic in all directions was shut down. She lay on the ground until an ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. the California Highway Patrol confirmed the woman was in stable condition. Separated by a large parking lot, from the street the marchers could see a large number of Sheriff's deputies lined up in riot gear with several vehicles along the building.

They have also blocked fans from entering National Basketball Association games and joined Clark's brother as he interrupted a City Council meeting and chanted his brother's name.

On Friday, a lawyer for Clark's family released a private autopsy showing most of the eight bullets that hit Clark struck him in the back, contradicting the police version of events.

Clark's family attorney Benjamin Crump said the autopsy "affirms that Stephon was not a threat to police and was slain in another senseless police killing under increasingly questionable circumstances".

"As protesters approached both of the marked vehicles, they began yelling while pounding and kicking the vehicles' exterior", the sheriff's department said in a statement. The police department says it has not received an official autopsy report from the county coroner's office.

One of Clark's young sons said "hi" to protestors from the rally's stage and thanked them for demonstrating Saturday.

The incident came amid protests over the fatal police shooting of Stephon Clark.

On the night of the protests, Cleveland had recalled her arrest three years ago for touching a police officer during a tense city council meeting.

"We acknowledge the importance of this case to all in our community and we are committed to a thorough and comprehensive investigation", police said in the statement.

"She is off of her feet resting right now", Ledford said.

Kristena Rodriguez-Johnson, who said her son was Clark's best friend and described herself as "a second mother to Stephon", talked about how Clark loved Sacramento and being a father.
