The top-ranked quarterback in the 2018 National Football League draft, Josh Allen, has apologized after a series of now-deleted old tweets containing racial slurs and more offensive language were uncovered on his Twitter. Yahoo's story about the tweets did not include screengrabs; when I saw the story the tweets had been deleted from Allen's account but the way they remained on Yahoo were in the format of tweets that existed when the post was published but were deleted afterwards. Most of the tweets were from 2012 and 2013.
Beyond the troubling nature of the comments themselves, one ESPN journalist has hinted at a more Machiavellian element to the timing of their release.
Josh Allen had to apologize after a series of offensive tweets from his past resurfaced online in what should be a lesson to any and all future draft prospects.
Sufficiently enough, perhaps, that he will slip a little further down the draft, and into the grasp of an organisation incapable of claiming Allen via traditional means.
