Paine said he'd only been appointed test captain at this stage.

Tim Paine was promoted to Australian cricket captain unlike anyone before him.

Paine revealed sacked skipper Steve Smith had already spoken about changing some things well before he copped his ban for bringing the game into disrepute over the ball tampering incident, along with David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.

However, ball tampering was not the only issue for a team that had five players sanctioned during a tempestuous series, with the side since vowing to change their behaviour.

"A lot of this stuff, we were actually starting to speak about under Steve already".

"I've now got a role to play - winning back the trust and respect of our fans and the Australian public first and foremost".

"(Smith) is someone I'll certainly be speaking too quite closely about how we go about it and keeping him in the loop.

"We've seen in the last few weeks how passionate Australia are about their cricket team".

Speaking from the Blundstone Arena in Hobart Paine told gathered press when asked if sledging would remain part of Australia's approach: "No, I don't think it will, not a lot".

"There's always a time and a place to talk to your opposition".

While Australia's next Test assignment will be a trip to the UAE to face Pakistan in September or October the more immediate concern is a limited overs tour to the United Kingdom that will form part of the team's preparation for the defense of their World Cup title, with the tournament to be staged in England and Wales in 2019.

Shire rejects "undervalued" Takeda bid
Shire also rejected the third proposal, made up of £17.75 in cash, to be paid in U.S. dollars, and £28.75 of new Takeda shares. That would value Shire at approximately 43 billion pounds, or $61 billion, Thomson Reuters data showed.

Barkley's agent denies Browns told not to draft him
Sure, he likes the idea of being back in the city of his birth-even playing for the Jets , the team he grew up rooting for. McShay said . "Which I've heard some speculation of, between Barkley and Sam Darnold , if Darnold is available".

Former Australian Test captain Ricky Ponting, along with former pacemen Jason Gillespie, have also been touted as potential replacements for Lehmann.

"I'm going to be doing everything I can to be doing it for as long as I can", he said.

The players faced an enormous backlash from a cricket-loving Australian public following the scandal, partly fuelled by their unhappiness with a team who felt they could act with impunity.

"We've got 12 months without those guys where we want to make sure when they come back, the environment and the way we play is how it should be and how the public wants it to be".

"In the past couple of years we've been a touch too emotional and been carried away on that side of the game."
"That's a small thing we can improve on".

"I've been put in this position because of how I was around the group". "I think what is important is to continue to do that and be who I am.be relaxed".

"I'm not an overly vocal captain, I like to think I'll lead by example".

"What I do know is whoever does end up being the Australian cricket coach will do a fantastic job". Both sides arrived in Cape Town for the all-important encounter, and that's where all hell broke loose for the touring party.

The Tasmanian went on to add that in the last few months, Smith wanted to change the way the game is played by Australia. "It took a huge toll in our last two Test matches", he said. "I've never been involved in something that affected so many people - from staff to players - and it was a really challenging two weeks and we didn't deal with it very well", he said. From the bad situation that we've been through the silver lining is that we get a bit of a clean slate and it's really exciting to be a part of that.

"At the moment, I'm just captain for as long as I am around". "I think the enormity in South Africa was a shock but the job (captaincy) felt like it was only for a week but now I'm lucky we have this big break and I come home and can think how I want to go about it".
