She maintained that she has married a man named Mohammad Azam, a resident of Lahore, during a ceremony held at Jamia Naeemia seminary in Lahore on April 16, at her own will and has taken a new name Amna Bibi.
He said the Indian woman filed the petition in the LHC through advocate Ijaz Ahmad.
Last year, another Indian woman, Uzma, had married a Pakistani man while on a visit to the country. I am very happy here along with my husband and I do not want to go back.
Kiran would have to renew her visa every six months for seven years, and if there are no complaints of law or Constitutional violations, then she can become a Pakistani national, her lawyer pleaded. She reportedly got in touch with the Pakistan Foreign Office and argued that her visa be extended as she had married Azam.
Her counsel Advocate Ijaz Ahmad told reporters that her client is hopeful to get a favourable decision from the interior ministry. He visa expires on April 21.

The high court while extending the Indian woman's visa by 30-days, directed the interior ministry to decide whether she is eligible for the six-month extension as per her application, the Express Tribune reported. "After marrying a Pakistani man she is entitled to have Pakistani citizenship", he said. She applied for extension of the visa, citing "threats of assassination" to her life in India, before Pakistan's foreign ministry, reports said.
Kiran Bala, the 31-year-old widow is the mother of three children and was living with her in-laws in Garhshankar, around 90 km from Chandigarh. She also requested to return back to her country which was granted by the court and was sent back.
Police officials claim that Bala and Azam were Facebook friends. Her father said he was devastated by her step.
