Plane crashes near Belfast International Airport

Emergency services are now at the scene, including fire and ambulance crews following the incident which happened just before 12.30pm.

The crash is reported to have happened at Nutts Corner.

A light aircraft has crashed in Northern Ireland, reportedly killing two people.

Emergency services personnel have been tasked to an incident involving a light aircraft, not far from Belfast International Airport.

NIAS implemented its major incident protocol in response to this incident.

The plane is thought to be a small Cessna aircraft.

A spokeswoman said: "It crashed in the vicinity of Loanends, two-three miles from the airport".

However, in a statement, Belfast International Airport said the plane was not operating out of it, or heading toward it to land.

The Fire Service remains at the scene.

Belfast International Airport has said it is operating as normal following the incident.
