The security authorities said that on that basis and after a deadly van rampage on Saturday in the western German city of Muenster, they chose to swoop on the suspects.

The other three suspects also had links to Amri, according to Die Welt.

A record 36,000 athletes entered the 21.1-kilometre race, which was won by Erick Kiptanui of Kenya in a course-record 58 minutes and 42 minutes.
