Moe Yan Naing on Friday told a court in Myanmar's commercial hub, Yangon, that six police officers, some of whom had previously had contact with Wa Lone, were called by police brigadier Tin Ko Ko to "trap" Wa Lone, according to the reporters' lawyer Khin Maung Zaw.

A Myanmar police chief ordered officers to set up a Reuters reporter by handing over sensitive documents to him in a sting operation that also ensnared his colleague, a police official told a court yesterday.

The witness, a deputy police captain who has himself been detained since December in connection with the Reuters journalists' case, said the defendants had been entrapped at the instruction of Police Brigadier-General Tin Ko Ko, whom he claimed had been the one to supply the secret documents at the centre of the case.

On Saturday, Moe Yan Naing's wife, Daw Tuu, said she and her daughter were ordered to move out of their police housing in the capital, Nay Pyi Taw.

According to the police captain, Tin Ko Ko ordered an officer who had previously spoken to Wa Lone to arrange the December 12 meeting, and threatened other police officers he sent to the meeting that if they did not carry out the arrests, they would be sent to jail themselves.

"That is definitely an outrageous movement", said Robert Sann Aung, a human rights attorney. "It is true that they were set up", Captain Moe Yan Naing told reporters. "This is to give an example to other police in the country to keep silent from telling the truth".

As he left court on Friday, Wa Lone said, "The truth has emerged".
